American Legion Boys State of Missouri

American Legion Boys State is an educational program of government instruction for high school students. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935 when it organized to counter the Fascist inspired Young Pioneer Camps. At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen.  Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs. Local high school juniors are selected by the Post to attend the program. In most cases, expenses associated with attending this program are paid by a sponsoring American Legion post, a local business or another community-based organization. Each year high schools are notified of this opportunity and students apply through their school counselors.

Flag Retirement

When the United States flag becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be "retired" with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation's flag. American Legion Post 202 offers a flag retirement service to the community.  Anyone having an American flag that needs to be retired may bring it to Post 202. There is a box created for an Eagle Scout project located at the door for this purpose.

Volunteers are urgently needed to help carry out these programs as well as others.   Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities, please contact the Commander at  202commander@gmail.com
